The Golden Beaver Award for Canadian Content

GoodDykePorn.com is officially an award winning website!  We picked up The Golden Beaver Award for Canadian Content at the Third Annual Feminist Porn Awards in Toronto, Ontario, right here in Canada.

It was an international affair with pornographers from all over the world including Erica Lust from Barcelona, Morty Diamond from New York City, Loree Erickson, a local porn revolutionary and a variety who couldn't be there for the festivities.  With me happily representing the West Coast Canadian.

I absolutely loved the weekend.  I felt so welcomed by everyone I met and it was truly a celebration of everything that's good about pornography.  Prior to leaving I had a telephone interview and they asked me what my definition of feminist porn was.  I was tripping over the question a bit.  Probably because it was the first one, but also because it's not so easy to define.  The work that was being honoured this year was all very different:  dyke porn, trans porn, educational porn, straight porn, with many other categories and representations among these varieties.  However, after seeing  the work it seems to me that feminist porn is good porn.

It was quite a joyous occasion, with very little controversial discussion.  Everyone seemed to accept a certain starting place for feminism and pornography and simply celebrated the work.  I'm sure if I'd listened in on some conversations I would have discovered some differing view points on what it means to be a feminist and what it means to work at creating pornography for women and transfolks alike.

Mostly people who talked to me wanted to know if I was making any money from this.  I'm not, actually, not yet.  The models this site and other peripherally involved people have, however, earned a bit of money.  So far my efforts have created films and a website and contributed to a new and exciting genre of porn, but not my rent.  These things take time and I accept that and believe that I will soon arrive at a place where I am being supported by my work.  I'm not so sure that very many other people believe it though.  Money is a tricky thing for women, especially, I think, when sex is involved.  Feminist Porn/Good Porn is still a new thing and it takes time for that to translate into money.  I know that everyone I met was very supportive and wished me well on this journey.  I think I'll process this money/women/feminism/porn line of thought a bit more and post on that specifically in the future because there's definitely a lot to explore there.

All in all, I am so grateful to all of you who have offered your support in the form of memberships, participation, encouraging words and true confidence and love in the work that we're doing.  These awards especially inspired me to continue to create art and to prove the marketability of feminist porn to not only pay my rent, but to inspire others to contribute to this market and help us make it grow.
